The Ambassadors

The Ambassadors
by Vera Bloemen and Genna Snider

They are hardworking. They are studious, intelligent and tactful. They represent their home countries and are essential to international politics. Who are these people? They are the Ambassadors, the representatives of their countries. When asked, Peter Goosen, the Ambassador of South Africa, expressed that "Ambassadors are in place to represent countries in their interests and to improve ties with other countries." Likewise, Marciano Dasilva, the Ambassador of Timor, stated that Ambassadors are appointed to "promote the country and bring in investors, work for the people and represent the people as best as possible, and work for peace in the country and the world".
This year's THIMUN theme is Good Governance and there are many nations represented at this conference who all have different views on what good governance is and how it is interpreted and applied within their territory. Many Ambassadors of the represented countries of THIMUN were present at the opening ceremony today, giving their compliments to the student delegates representing their nation as well as their gratitude for the students' efforts. A few Ambassadors thought that the theme chosen is "very good", "interesting" and "definitely should be solved". Even though researching for your country is often difficult, all ambassadors agree that the students are representing their countries well and to their full potential.
Unquestionably, THIMUN brings the world closer to a brighter future for all. It is in the hopes of everyone that 'a consensus (will be reached) which will bring prosperity to all', as said by the Deputy Ambassador of Norway, Siri Nicolaisin. Alternatively, as the Ambassador of the Russian Federation put it, THIMUN and the youth participating in it shall 'make the world a better place'.
The Ambassador of South Africa, Peter Goosen, expressed that THIMUN is a great event that engages young people and answers questions in the international community as well. Marciano DaSilva, from Timor, agreed and said that it is an appropriate event for young people and it is the best way to start the young generation on the political track.
For all the delegates out there, this simulated UN experience is closer to reality, as many of the issues faced in this conference are faced on a daily basis. The ambassadors of the countries present at THIMUN come constantly across the repercussions and outcomes of the issues being discussed here.
